The star dominated the Official Singles Chart in the run-up to Christmas but urged fans to support the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir’s song A Bridge Over You for top spot.


He even urged fans to "do the right thing" by helping the charity single claim the number one spot, adding that "for one week it's OK not to be number one".

The choir, who were fundraising for charity, went on to win the race with a total of combined chart sales of over 127,000 copies against Bieber's 97,000.


After hearing he had beaten into second place, he tweeted to his 72 million followers: "Just heard the news. Amazing. That is what Christmas is all about. @Choir-NHS congrats!! Very cool".

However, his popularity in the charts has showed no signs of slowing down after he took three of the top five spots in the first week of 2016.

Adele has also enjoyed a strong start to the year after her album 25 entered its sixth week at the top of the album chart and Hello climbed to number three in the singles chart.
